BusyBox: The Swiss Army Knife of Embedded Linux

    BUSYBOX
    BusyBox

BusyBox combines tiny versions of many common UNIX utilities into a single small executable. It provides replacements for most of the utilities you usually find in GNU fileutils, shellutils, etc. The utilities in BusyBox generally have fewer options than their full-featured GNU cousins; however, the options that are included provide the expected functionality and behave very much like their GNU counterparts. BusyBox provides a fairly complete environment for any small or embedded system.

    Asus A8N-SLi BIOS Update 1014
The latest BIOS version number 1014 finally successfully activate the Cool and Quite feature of AMD Athlon CPU. You can refer to this post for the detail.

It's really unbelievable that Asus take 1 year to develop a correct BIOS after the shippment of this motherboard.

    Areca 1210 SATA Raid Card
    I install a Areca 1210 SATA PCI-E Raid card on Asus K8N-DL.

In the manual of Areca, it claims that its "storport" driver has superior performance and management feature. They encourage customer to install "storport" driver instead of its "scsiport" driver.

However, after storport driver has been installed, my Windows 2003 frequently crash and reboot repeatedly. The bouldled management software even can't recognize the existance of this card.

I wrote letter to Areca through the web page provided by Areca (http://www.areca.com.tw/support/index/question.htm)
    , but got no response.

After switching from storport v1.02 to scsiport v1.01 WHQL, the problem disappears.

The card performance is really astonishing.

    Asus K8N-DL BIOS update 1008
The latest BIOS version number 1008 solve the reboot problem.

It's more than 1 year after the mass production of this mother board. The quality of previous version BIOS is far from satisfactory.

    Experience with iPod Video 60G
I bought a iPod Video 60G to experience the legend of fashion. Prior to that I have many experience of various branded MP3 players from low-end to high-end.

Of course, iPod Video is slicky and well designed. Although the color display is of nice resolution, its small size makes it not a comfortable activity to watch video for a long time. Besides, the color of the LCD is dull which is undoubtedly a minus.

The most disappointed stroke is the necessary of iTune in the middle. On positive side, iTune is a good media manager which helps rookies to organize their media files. However, on the negative side, it forbids direct access to the device which is very bad in the view of operation Transparency. Everyone knows Apple has its business consideration by doing this.

Overall, I have to admit that iPod Video is a solid-built toy nice to have. It certainly has some unique points in its hardware design and hardware user interface. But the proprietary iTune creates an unfriendly and opaque wall which prohibits users from control the device accordingly.

After bought it, I decided to sold it within 24Hr.
